Oasis of the Seas size comparison to other cruise ships.

A quick update on the size of Oasis of the Seas. Each time I got off the ship at the ports as other ships docked nearby I was able to appreciate the size of it! As you can see here on the left as it docked next to a Carnival Cruise ship, Oasis of the Seas towers over it. Not to mention the length of it compared to the Carnival Cruise ship, wow!

At every port we stopped, the passengers of the other ships would gather outside on their ships and watch us arrive. There were hundreds if not thousands of people waiting for Oasis of the Seas arrive and dock next to them. The lights of the flashes could be seen from far away and from all angles as they took pictures of us as we arrived!

The photo on the right was taken from a distance as we were taking a tour. You can see how much more larger Oasis is compared to the other ships! Some of the other ships docked were the Disney ship, Costa Atlantica, Carnival and one additional ship I don’t recall at the moment. The second largest on there is the Costa Atlantica on the far left, but as you can see it Oasis is significantly larger.

I’ll share more of the trip on Oasis, along with all the activities on board and a few tips I learned to make any voyage on Oasis a little easier!

Pools, food and Hairspray at the Oasis of the Seas!

Sunday – Day 2 on Oasis of the Seas.

After a long nights sleep, which we desperately needed, day two started with breakfast at the the Windjammer Cafe. The view is spectacular and the food is not bad either! Unlike yesterday afternoon, the skies are blue today and the sea is calm.

We played a little miniature golf then headed over to the pools. The pools are nice, but wish they had more, it was a little crowded. The hut tubs/whirlpools are the best and we spent most of our time in one of the larger ones. They hang and overlook the side of the ocean.

It was a black tie event for dinner today so we headed back to get ready. Dinner was ok, sorry no photos of it today, wife became a little nauseous all of a sudden, it was probably due to the movement of the ship, we were beginning to feel it a lot more that evening.

After losing a few bucks at the Casino, we headed over to see the musical production Hairspray at the Opus Theater, which is huge, holds over 1000 guests. I was really surprised, it was great!

At the end of the night we found a nice surprise in our stateroom, flamingos!

Saturday – Day 1 on Oasis of the Seas.

After an overnight flight on Virgin America we finally arrived at the Ft. Lauderdale and took a taxi to the new terminal built especially for Oasis of the Seas. Like the ship, it was new, clean and smelled like it was built yesterday. All the workers are very friendly but still new to the process, after a few glitches we checked in and were lead to a seating area to await embarkment. Since our flight arrived early we were first in line to enter the ship! It is BIG.

You enter the promenade deck and its like a Las Vegas’s hotel entrance, grand! They have an old classic car in the center next to the elevating bar. Restaurants and stores are setup throughout the two story Promenade. Our rooms were not going to be ready until 1pm, we had an hour left. So we went up to the Windjammer buffet for lunch on deck 16. Oasis was set to depart at 5pm. Around 4:30pm the skies got dark and a downpour darkened our view. We were at the Solarium at the front of the ship when the storm hit. Oasis made its way out of the Port Everglades in the rain!

Later that night, the skies were clear again and we went for a late night snack at Sorrentos for pizza. We missed our dinner time at 6pm, we took a nap, we were very tired from the flight over. We went back to our room and from our balcony we could see the Oasis water show, we had a very nice view.

As I finish up packing some last few things, I begin to pack my camera equipment into a backpack. For this trip I decide to leave the Pelican case behind and load everything into my backpack. That’s a laptop, a couple of cameras, batteries and power supply. Wife is wondering if we are going on vacation or work! However, she forgets, I like taking photos!

Its raining outside and has been the entire week, looking forward to the Caribbean warm weather! The photos right now on this site are stock photos of the ship, can’t wait to add many, many more of my own! I’ll try to update it daily, but depending on my schedule it may be every other day.

The first 2-3 days we are at sea, then our first stop will be Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands), then the following day arrive at Philipsburg, St. Maarten, (Dutch/French island), our next stop will be Nassau, Bahamas. Then finally arriving at Ft. Lauderdale. This is our first cruise and looking forward to it, 7 days at sea, or at least a large floating resort!
